Nicola is a british artist, illustrator and designer who grew up in North Devon, surrounded by beautiful countryside and stunning coastlines.
After a few years living and working in Buckinghamshire and then Staffordshire, she returned to the west country to set up her studio at the foot of the Quantocks in Somerset.
Nicola studied at Winchester School of Art where she obtained a BA Honours Degree in Fashion and Textiles. There she developed a passion for fabric pattern, and, above all, a love of colour. Colour and light are the most important qualities that influence every piece Nicola creates. “Colour, light, texture and pattern often influences one’s mood and creates atmosphere”.
Within each artwork she therefore tries to create an atmosphere or feeling, enabling the viewer to connect with a memory or perhaps even be transported to the place depicted.
Nicola likes to work in a variety of different media. She often paints in watercolour and oils, but loves to sketch and draw with pencils. Her sketches often form the basis of her textile designs and are the starting point for new ideas. Many of her pieces have a coastal theme and the coast is where she can often be found drawing inspiration.
