At the Deepbridge Chester Arts Fair, there are over 1,000 pieces of artwork available to buy and view throughout the weekend. Whether you’re buying a painting to liven up the front room or purchasing a Christmas gift for someone special, there is sure to be something worthy of your investment.

There are no secrets or enigmas when it comes to buying art … if you see something you love and it stirs something inside of you, then its probably for you. When starting a collection you don’t need to have a background in art, you simply need to love what you’re collecting and have the means to support it.

Do Your Research

If you’re buying art for investment purposes, you will need to research as much as you can and talk to reliable people such as experienced art dealers and artists.

Emerging yourself into art environments such as Chester Arts Fair means you can be sure that the artists exhibiting are only offering the highest standards of art around as they have gone through a strict filtering process. Ask our exhibitors questions:

What are the artist’s credentials?
Where else have they exhibited?
Can you view their CV and training background?
When was the art produced?
What methods and materials have been used?

There are no silly questions to ask, exhibitors understand the importance of questions when buying art so feel free to ask them anything.

Do You Have a Budget?

At Chester Arts Fair we have art that ranges from a very affordable £40.00 up to £10,000 plus. Be prepared to fall in love with a piece that sits outside your budget, but remember, you set your budget for a reason. There are always options available such as the ‘Own Art’ scheme where you can set up 10 interest-free installments to acquire the art you love.

Like with any other major purchase, you need to set yourself a realistic budget. If it is a large, statement piece for your home, £200 might not get you what you want, but if it’s a small, framed print you are looking for, £200 is all you will need.

Know What You Love

The chances are, you are going to be looking at your art for a very long time, so make sure you love what you buy. Research and explore all available styles and periods. There are a lot of them out there, visiting art fairs and galleries is a great way to familiarise yourself with what’s available and will help you identify what art you like. There might be a certain colour that resonates with you or countryside landscape that stands out more to the cityscape you’ve just seen.
