Astrid Smithies

As a child, I have always been creative and loved art of any kind. It was actually the photography of one of my favourite explorers which inspired me to start painting again this year. I’ve decided to focus on silhouette images for my work. They allow the imagination to create the images they want from the negative spaces.

I have been practicing art all my life, mostly self-taught. My art allows you to use your imagination to fill in the blanks. With most paintings, you’re presented with an image already. With mine, you can let your imagination run wild.
