Award Winning Artist Returns to Fair for Second Successive Year
Returning to Chester Arts Fair for the second successive year, Philip Gerrard was one of the Fair’s top selling artists of 2016 with plans to showcase an even wider selection of his highly acclaimed still-life works for 2017.
Philip has been awarded various accolades for his art during his career spanning 53 years. In 2004 he was shortlisted for the Daily Mail’s ‘Not the Turner Prize’ competition and in 2007 was awarded bronze for his work in The Wildlife Art Society. Specializing in still life, Philip is very passionate about the genre. He says, “the skill of the artist is in the ability to replicate any texture or surface, create the illusion of three dimensions on a flat surface, ensure compositional order and harmony, and imbue subtle mood through carefully considered lighting of the subject matter.”
A self taught artist, Philip does not allow himself to be influenced by other artists and spends a considerable about of time sourcing objects which capture his imagination. His works are all consequences of his own preferences and taste and represent his love of art and his highly developed, unique skill.
Philip belongs to the Classical Realism school. His work hangs in private collections in the UK, USA and Australia and in 2010 was commissioned by St Helens RLFC to paint a portrait of the Knowsley Road ground when the last game was played here at the end of the season.
Chester Arts Fair will return from 17-19 November at Chester Racecourse, exhibiting the work of over 80 UK & International, emerging and established artists. Tickets are on sale as well as available to purchase at the door, on the day.
The full exhibitor list will be announced in September. For more information see our full website or alternatively email info@blackmango.co.uk or call 01244 952020.
