Educated at Newcastle University which led to a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, and 5 years later a PGCE from Cardiff University. Peter moved to North Wales from Cardiff in 1981. He has spent many years walking and climbing in North Wales, often with sketch book in hand. He paints ‘plein air’ making numerous sketches and finished drawings. Peter’s influences range from Turner to Piper. His own style has developed into a more abstracted method , but still revealing atmosphere and mood. To this end his perspective is brutalised, his methods harsh, then softened, in a continual state of flux. To quote, “My paintings are selected from my tonal sketches, and are also memorised, to find a developed contrast of light and colour. My paintings are subjected in this way to intense experimentation in acrylic inks which are inviolate by their nature, and this approach becomes the creative force.” Peter also demonstrates and lectures to numerous art societies in North Wales, and has records of drawing and painting from these groups, as well as school art from Sudan. Peter is now with the Martin Tinney gallery in Cardiff. He also exhibits in the Royal Cambrian Academy, Gallerie Betws y Coed, and Oriel Mon, Anglesey. He has also exhibited in MOMA Wales.
